Deep Sea Coral

Deep Sea Coral.
PARAGORGIA ARBOREA
Absorbing Whats Around
Polyps group up to 10 m
Although plant life does not appear to flourish abundantly in the deep sea; scientists have discovered nearly as many species of deep sea corals as shallow water ones. The paragorgia corals' tiny and intricate lattice of tributaries form a flat red dish. Doesn't need sunlight to survive- instead absorbing nutrients from passing organisms trapped in currents. They may be some of the oldest marine organisms around and may contain crucial medicines such as discodemolide, which prevents cancer cells from dividing and spreading.
