The Chariot

Comissioned painting (bathroom door) for the Alchemist's Kitchen, a new restaurant opening on Jetty Road in Brighton.
The Chariot
The rider of the Chariot holds a burning question. They are on a mission with a path so clear that they have become a force to be reckoned with. The waxing crescent moons that embellish the rider’s breastplate symbolise what is to come, their crown represents victory and success. The rider needs no reigns- instead holding the Alchemists’ wand, symbolising that the chariot is driven only by the power of the mind. Guarding the hemispheres of the rider’s mind are two sphinx; opposing forces pulling in two directions. But the Alchemist had another gift to the rider in order to overcome this; Urim and Thummim, two identical stones, black and white, each constituting an answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’ and holding the power to make the rider’s path clearer when drawn from their pocket. The rider remembers the streams he has crossed that taught them to go with the flow of life, but hungers for an answer to a question they know they will find because they truly need to. All of the universe conspires to give them the vehicle to chase this answer, so the rider surges forward on their Chariot with an unstoppable momentum.
