$150. 30 x 60 cm. Acrylic Brush and Pen on Canvas
Squidding off of Brighton jetty, I once caught a muddy purple octopus. It was extremely annoyed at me for interrupting
its day and flared a hot American mustard colour, raising its tentacles to swat my feet as I guided it back to the
jetty’s edge. The suckers gripped to my sneakers and it dangled there for a moment above the water, as though halfconsidering sticking around by choice to finish the fight. It was one of my most profoundly intense face-to-face
connections with sea life and it happened on dry land!
